How Power Corrupted the Pigs in Animal Farm by George Orwell :: Free Essay Writer

The parody Animal Farm by George Orwell communicates the possibility of self-government through the animals. The creatures assume the job of people, along these lines utilizing most, if not all, of the human qualities. Since the animals conclude that they need to show the homestead to themselves, they make up a method of living called Animalism. The essential standards of Animalism are two, all creatures are to be treated as equivalents, and no creatures will procure any human qualities or qualities at all. The seven decrees under which they live depend on these significant standards. When they build up an entirely different framework, they toss out the entirety of the people that run the homestead. Despite the fact that they should be equivalent, the pigs start to take control. Before the finish of the novel, the pigs have controlled the remainder of the creatures into doing all that they need. The pigs at that point become precisely like the people. The most significant pigs are Napoleon and Snowball, that is until Napoleon tosses Snowball from the ranch. It is all through this parody Orwell represents how force adulterates by indicating the pigs activities. Force debases, outright force undermines completely is an idea generally comprehended in the wake of having perused Orwell’s parody. It is first indicated when the pigs take the milk and apples, disclosing to the remainder of the creatures that everybody is equivalent, yet some are simply more â€Å"equal† than others. They likewise contend that the pigs accomplish all the more reasoning, and in this manner need more vitality to do as such. It is in the last piece of the book, that the idea of debasement progressively wins its importance. At the point when Napoleon drives Snowball away from the homestead, the force is all his. Napoleon fixes whatever turns out badly on the homestead just by accusing Snowball. He demands that Snowball had consistently arranged everything so as to hurt the homestead. Napoleon doesn't have a cutoff. The pigs break every one of the seven precepts, some without notice, basically on the grounds that force is addictive, and they continually need a greater amount of it. It is rarely enough. These rules are to be trailed by all the animals living on the homestead consistently. Remembered for these precepts is the 6th one which expresses that no creature will execute some other creature. Napoleon breaks this precept when he murders the chickens he says are against him and the farm’s standards.

Project Essay Example

Task Essay Example Venture Essay Venture Essay The polymer will lose its high bendable quality as more water is creature units reinforced together. Polyvinyl acetic acid derivation is a rubbery manufactured polymer. This polymer is a segment in stick. Blending borax in with polyvinyl acetic acid derivation will make it cross-connection and structure ooze. Cross-connecting is a bond that joins one polymer chain to another. (see graph beneath). Borax, which is additionally, known as sodium borate is a non-poisonous substance and has a wide-assortment of employments. We have to utilize our insight into science to clarify the physical attributes and synthetic conduct of a specific material. Our target in this examination was to make a polymer ball that was both reverberation inviting and nontoxic. Strategies/Procedures The accompanying things were utilized: - Polyvinyl liquor - Sodium borate - Polyvinyl acetic acid derivation strong - Starch During week one of our test we utilized the entirety of the fixings that were given to us. A 10:1 proportion between polyvinyl liquor and sodium borate was utilized. We utilized this proportion in light of the fact that while directing exploration, there was a comparative test to the polymer ball and it said a 10:1 proportion was utilized. Ml of borax and ml of polyvinyl liquor was filled a shopping center measuring utencil. At that point the blend was mixed for around 10 minutes until the blend turned into a clingy substance. Ml of polyvinyl acetic acid derivation was hen filled the blend. The blend was mixed for 2-3 minutes. During week two we should change our blend and furthermore make our polymer ball impervious to the warmth and cold since it would have been sent from Florida to New Mexico to Alaska. During this investigation we changed our analysis utilizing less fixings and less substances. The main fixings utilized were the polyvinyl liquor and the sodium borate. Ml of polyvinyl liquor and ml of sodium borate were blended in a shopping center measuring glass. The blend was mixed until it began to thicken which took around 10-15 minutes. The blend was removed from the recepticle, and folded into a ball for around 5 minutes at that point set back in the measuring glass and let it sit for 20 minutes. Following 20 minutes, the blend turned out to be less clingy and was simpler to fold into the state of a ball. Since we should make a ball that was impervious to various atmosphere temperatures, the polymer ball was part into two. Half of the ball would be in high temp water and the other would be in ice. Results/Discussion When the Papa and sodium borate were combined, the blend turned out to be exceptionally clingy and a great deal of air bubbles were framed and the blend likewise frothed. The blend crackpot the state of the measuring glass, however when it was removed from the container and was left to sit on the table, the polymer would straighten out. This is called shape memory, materials that can recollect their shape after a bending happens and can reconfigure its shape upon a boost. In the second seven day stretch of this investigation we intended to not utilize starch, or polyvinyl acetic acid derivation strong did nothing to our item. To test the polymer ball regarding whether the ball could withstand diverse temperature atmospheres. Two tests were performed. An ice shower test, and a bubbling water test. One portion of the ball was coloring in a measuring utencil of ice. When the polymer was put in the container it began to steam and promptly it began to freeze. The polymer likewise began to level out. At the point when it was removed from the ice it was extremely dangerous and difficult to hold. It was likewise hard to fold into a ball. Be that as it may, after it sat in room temperature it was simpler to shape into a ball and still conveyed the bob that a fun ball ought to have. In bubbling water try, water was bubbled in a container with the utilization of a Bunsen burner. After the water was bubbling we set the polymer ball into the water and it softened UT didnt completely break up in the water. There was a layer of the polymer ball drifting in the water. We gathered the layer and put the substance into a measuring utencil. At the point when the substance chilled off and had returned to room temperature, the substance turned out to be exceptionally stretchy. The polymer could likewise be folded again into a ball. All in all, we couldn't make a polymer ball that would have the option to withstand distinctive atmosphere changes, however had the option to make the fun ball. The polymers we made bounced despite the fact that they were somewhat floppy and werent immaculate circles. The polymer adhered to all surfaces however was anything but difficult to pull off. It was pliant and simple to shape. It couldnt be pulled separated or extended, Just crunched and pressed. When the polyvinyl acetic acid derivation strong was added to our first blend it had stick like shading and no progressions were made to the substance. At the point when you add borax answer for polymers like PA, it cross-interfaces the two polymers together like a net. Contingent upon the amount of every fixing is blended you can either make a blend that is disgusting or stretchy. By including cornstarch the blend will have the option to twist and stretch the blend. Most plastics are polymers. For instance PVC pipes is the constant connecting of a similar particle.

Doctrine Of Creation Essays - Creation Myths,

Convention Of Creation Convention of creation I don't get our meaning by creation? How supportive are making, transmission as well as masterful work as analogies? Is it a teaching about the universes beginnings or root, or about its present or future presence, for sure? Creation is frequently alluded to as a 'secret' and this is because of its maybe questionable nature. Christian religious philosophy characterizes creation from multiple points of view, which contrast extraordinarily as perspectives on a similar topic. John Macquarrie attempts to make the secret more clear by utilizing two analogies to attempt to depict what creation really is. The first of these is that of 'making'. This is best comprehended close by the strict comprehension of creation, which can be found in the Bible, particularly in the Old Testament (Genesis). The similarity is that of a skilled worker creating an article that will be utilized. It focuses on the prevalence of God; there is the two contrasts and separation between the skilled worker and his item - as there is amazing quality among God and God's animals. It regards creation as a demonstration of through and through freedom with respect to God, not as a procedure that is essentially part of the Natural Law, which is increasingly a view communicated constantly similarity. One issue with the 'making' similarity is that it doesn't grasp the conventional 'creatio ex nihilo' (creation from nothing) see; if God has made the universe in the manner by which a craftsman or a metal forger would, out of what has he really made it? The subsequent similarity is that of 'spread'. To comprehend this similarity it is ideal to envision God, the maker, as the sun, with the made, Gods animals, as the beams radiating from it. This view focuses on greater fondness between the source (God) and what has sprung from it, accordingly making this something contrary to the 'making' similarity, with a a lot more grounded accentuation on nature instead of amazing quality. As of now referenced, this hypothesis of creation regards it more as a characteristic procedure that an unconstrained demonstration, which is considered by some to be moving excessively far along the scale; a glad mean among nature and unrestrained choice is the perfect view. Radiation is certifiably not an extremely scriptural, conventionalist perspective on creation, and as such is regularly observed as contradicted to the perspective on making. Be that as it may, Macquarrie would not wish this, and says 'It ought not be viewed as an opponent plan to the scriptural one...It ought to for sure be viewed as optional to the scriptural thought, yet as such it gives certain correctives and offers articulation to experiences which are not unmistakably introduced in the picture of making.' A recommended 'center situation between these two contradicting pictures is now and again set forward, that of the 'gem' relationship. From the outset this is by all accounts a decent harmony among amazing quality and characteristic; in making a work, a craftsman puts something of himself into it, while simultaneously staying outer to the real thing itself. Be that as it may, does this do equity to the degree of the characteristic of God in the formation of the universe? The craftsman similarity presently seems to be excessively outside; again there is an inappropriate equalization. A method of making the correct parity is hold 'one next to the other in their strain with each other the models of making and radiation. These pictures do have something significant in the quest for the right perspective on God and creation, anyway they all should be given equivalent load in the brain as they all have terrible focuses and all have great. How you see the equalization of amazing quality and innateness in the creation secret is an issue to a great extent for the individual, anyway most Christian controls see God as both otherworldly and inborn at the same time in the making of the universe. Karl Barth asserts that as we can not think experimentally about creation, the entire tenet of creation is in truth a principle of confidence; the real record of a world appearing could be viewed as a statement of faith of sorts, an outflow of faith in God. Christian regulation of creation is part into three areas; creatio originalis (the single demonstration of creation in the first place), creatio continua ( ceaseless contribution of creation)

Description of Project Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2

Depiction of Project Management - Essay Example The initial step is for the group and client to distinguish set of stories that show the framework functionalities that the final result ought to have. In the following stage, the undertaking group peruses and talks about the accounts acquired from the principal stage and these accounts are requested by the assessed length of story execution. Here issues on everyone's mind are broken down into little stories. There is consistently trouble in evaluating the exertion required for a specific thing. It is likewise hard to appraise the time that the equivalent may take. To fathom this issue, a few to-do things are benefited so as one can without much of a stretch make decisions in regards to which stories are long and tedious. A story may have two to eight focuses relying upon its trouble. This is accomplished for all the accounts in the rundown. Notwithstanding, the Gantt outline is basic and simple to use since it just remembers the drawing and the composition of bars for various hues. Nicholas and Steyn (67) contend that the Gantt diagram encounters postpones which are particularly obvious when different exercises that require similar assets are planned for a similar time. At the point when assets are not adequate to fulfill the necessities of every one of them, a few exercises must be postponed. There are uprising reactions about the system techniques since they fuse suspicions and yield results that are ridiculous some of the time. The significance of systems is that they show accurately the interdependencies of the undertaking's exercises and furthermore the booking influences the last have on one another. I object this recommendation by Nicholas and Steyn (62) because the assets are not constantly accessible. This, hence, thinks about the booking of undertakings with asset requirements and the impacts of these limitations on outstanding task at hand change and venture length. A

10 Bad and Outdated Job Hunting Tips You Should Stop Believing

10 Bad and Outdated Job Hunting Tips You Should Stop Believing There it is! Your college degree. The tassel has been turned to the other side, the caps have been thrown, and the punch is being poured in your old student union.Time to celebrate! And like clockwork, here comes Dad, his hand extended for a hearty handshake and hug about how well his kid did.“Now if there’s one thing I’m going to tell you, it’s that when it comes to jobs, you’re there to work. Take whatever job you get. You’re not there to have fun, but to earn money.”You nod your head and hug your dad, because he just means well. But chances are you’ve heard that a thousand times along with some other good…. well, not so good “advice” from well-meaning people in your everyday life. This article is different. Here, we are going to talk about ten old pieces of job-hunting advice that everybody just needs to forget. This job hunt isn’t your dad’s or even your grandfather’s-so let’s step into the new era together. We have even provided what to say when you are faced with some of these tough situations so you can handle it like an old pro.Stay with us!BAD ADVICE #1: “FILL THAT APPLICATION WITH HOT WORDS AND PHRASES.”Office buzzwords and other phrases like them are simply old hat. They need to just go away as far as we are concerned. You know them well-they are those words that somehow only pervade office banter and meeting rooms across the country. It’s stuff like “teamwork makes the dream work!” or “Think outside the box!” or “This team has synergy!”Yikes, give it a rest. The same goes for your resume. Those words only end up making your application look silly and rather annoying at best. Some of the most overly written buzzwords that bother us all include “Passionate”, “focused” and “Expert.”There is nothing inherently wrong with these phrases. After all, it’s great to be thought of as an expert in your field, and to be thought of as “passionate” would be a great compliment to your person! But here’s whe re the trouble lies: These words are not special. They are used by everybody everywhere.Using them is so easy because they’ve worked for others time and time again. Well, that time is passed. It’s not going to kill your chances when you use these words, but your skills and the great things you’ve done will be what impresses the hiring manager-not some flowery words.Instead of using common office buzzwords, use words instead that reflect the accomplishments you have managed to pull off over the years, such as “achieved” or “utilized.”Look out for keywords that are in relation to the skills, personality traits and qualifications that the hiring personnel seek. Look for related terms too, that you think fit the bill. Match those words with your skill. You are trying to beat the ATS, or Applicant Tracking System, and the way to do that is to include keywords that pertain to the position you want as well as your suitability.Make that resume show how YOU-yes, you, can solve wh atever issues the company is facing.Check out this great infographic from Raconteur’s blog about buzzwords. BAD ADVICE #2. “PUT A CALL TO ACTION ON THAT COVER LETTER.”Have you ever been talking to another friend about a get together you’d like to have, and then another friend sidles up, hears you and mentions they’ll “pop in and visit too”? Argh!Nothing is more annoying than a person who invites themselves to a party or get together when no invitation was extended.Guess what. That rule applies to business too. Putting a “call to action” at the end of your cover letter is something that many would consider a bit arrogant. “Calls to Action” are great if you are a blogger and would like to encourage reader engagement, but on cover letters-no way. Leave them off. These are mistaken as being great ways to appear super interested and excited about a position. And sure, the right hiring manager might feel that way.But chances are, they won’t.So instead, let’s talk a bout some other great ways to end a letter that still conveys excitement.Avoid: “I will be in contact next Wednesday to speak with you about this CV and arrange a meeting to discuss this matter further.”Yikes! Don’t assume they are going to make time out of their day just for you-you’re not the CEO yet! Instead, try these approaches when closing that letter:“I would love the chance to meet with you and your team to talk further about how my skills and experience will benefit your company.”  â€œShould I be offered the chance to work for your company, I will be ready to dive in headfirst and help [Company] exceed all expectations for greatness.”“I believe this position will grow my excitement and knowledge of the industry because of how many great opportunities you offer the people of [Company].  Cover letter with phrases like this are a lot more grounded and will still convey excitement. And whatever you do, do not forget to write a nice “Thank You” follow-up emai l once you have that interview!BAD ADVICE #3: “SEND YOUR RESUME EVERYWHERE.”You know the old phrase. If you cast a wide net, you’re sure to pull in a few fishes here and there. It’s great advice for commercial fishermen at work, but for job hunters-not so much.Resumes have to be tailored to fit each and every job description.Remember earlier when we talked about using good keywords that fit in with the job description and relating them to the skills of that particular position? This is because it has to be read by screening software before it even sees human eyes for the first time. So, you have to tailor that resume so that HR workers and computers with recruiting software are able to detect your skill sets as being a great match for the job. Here are some ideas. If They Want A Team Player…Talk about the times you worked with others in a successful way. Show how your skills in working with others did a great thing. For instance, you might say “Collaborated with Marketing to introduce a VR food menu for new products, resulting in sales increase of 15%.”If They Want Leadership Skills…Talk about ways in which you instructed, helped people do their best, and made them excited about coming to work each day. You might say “Mentored 2 employees on performance improvement plans, continuing relationship after they were off said plan.”And the best part? Even if you do not fit a job’s exact description, we can help.Ready to make sure your resume is top notch? Check out this Business Insider video. BAD ADVICE #4: “TONE DOWN THAT PERSONALITY!”Once we heard an ad for a networking event on a local news station, and it started off like, “Hi, I’m Bill from Business. I blah blah blah….” The fellow’s monotone voice and the poking of fun at networking was enough to make us chuckle. The ad was meant to be funny, but we took something more serious from it: That you can’t boring your way into a job. There is this unwritten rule that we all have to b e straight-laced and dull on our resumes and in our interviews.Yes, you should go over some basic interview questions. You must have a flawless resume with good font, form and quality of print. But a combination of all this can end up making you look staged and rather dull. One way we can all be personality-smart and professional is to answer truthfully the question “Why Do You Want to Work Here?”You will want to avoid generic answers that all the hiring managers have heard in the past-they denote little to no research done on the company. And do not be super honest, either: stating “I really need the money,” or “The pay is amazing!” indicates you care more about your financial woes than the well-being of the company. We all work for the money, but don’t shout it out!For instance, if your dream company values a strong work ethic as part of your position, you might discuss how you weight train on the regular or prepare for marathons if you are a runner.BAD ADVICE #5: “DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE, AND YOULL NEVER WORK A DAY IN YOUR LIFE!”OK, friends, time to get real. Realistically, it is simply not possible for all of us to make money doing what we absolutely love.Being paid to travel and try new restaurants would be lovely, but that is not going to be the path many of us get to go down. For example, Forbes published an article that provided us all some staggering stats: For instance, did you know that food and travel blog numbers are in the billions? Sheesh! With that kind of competition, you could be stuck in the same spot for years and never get anywhere with it all. That being said, you should still pursue your dream, but as a side project. For your regular day job, you will want to figure out what kind of work you really enjoy: numbers, coding, teaching, analyzing-and all that’s in between-and try to find a position based upon that.Think about the business greats in your own life and in the big picture that you really love and try to imitate their personalities and work ethics.Once you have figured out the jobs you really are interested in, your desire to work your hardest at them will shine through. And the hobby or blog that you really love? Well, that will be a nice treat for after-work hours that will separate your work and home life in a healthy way.BAD ADVICE #6: “YOU CAN PUT ME DOWN AS A REFERENCE!”References can be a touchy subject for job seekers.Maybe we burned a bridge or two back at the old position. Maybe a manager or superior did not get along with us as we would have liked. Perhaps a coworker simply doesn’t want to be contacted by an HR recruiter. In these situations, it can be tempting to write down your brother in law or even your cousin as a reference. It’s even better when the volunteer to be used as one, but this is not a great idea.Instead, you always want to shoot for people who have overseen and managed your employment. Managers, supervisors or even regional leaders are all great options that you can approach to use on your “References’ portion. You will want to aim for three great and strong references that you will have no trouble showing off.Students just starting in the workforce, you might ask for a recommendation from a professor or leader of a group or club of which you’ve been a member.Depending on who you would like to use, you can usually politely ask them in person or over email. For higher-up references, it is recommended you draft a formal letter signed with ink and send it to that individual.BAD ADVICE #7: “TAKE THE FIRST OFFER YOU GET!”We all have been desperate for a job. We all need money to survive, eat and have fun with our families. But to snap up the very first job that comes your way could mean a real snag in your career’s path. For instance, some positions might be downright unfulfilling. Imagine having to trudge your way through the days instead of treating your job as a duty that is purposeful and important. You will quickly reach a burnout an d fail to do your best work. And don’t even think of working for an employer on a volunteer basis unless you really feel the need to do so.After all, says Liz Ryan of Forbes, if you don’t value your own work enough so someone has to pay for it, why should anybody else?Furthermore, some jobs just don’t align with our beliefs and values. You should not give away who you are as a person just to make a few dollars. For instance, if you are a vegan but find yourself working in a butcher shop, or don’t care to be pushy but take a job selling cars, you are going to wear yourself down and feel awful about what you do.And perhaps the most important of all, consider how your job will affect your family. The pay might be great, but money isnt everything. Can you still see your kids and spouse on a regular basis? Will you miss out on birthdays, ballet recitals and baseball games?Sometimes the first offer is not always the greatest. You can politely turn down job offers and still leave a p ositive impression. The best thing to do is be honest, appreciative, and do it sincerely-avoid email, says Cheryl Lock writing for Flexjobs. You might call up and say, “I greatly appreciate your consideration of me for XX position. I have opted to seek a different endeavor, but it means a lot that you considered me a viable candidate. I wish you all the best, and hope that you enjoy continued success.” In some instances, it might be prudent to ask for an email so you can stay in touch in case anything changes.BAD ADVICE #8: “YOU DONT NEED THAT LINKEDIN PROFILE!”In our society today, social media is ultra-important. It is not only for those cute family photos and memes of cartoons from our childhood, but for a business’s wellbeing, too.Your presence online is super important in our hyper-connected online world and having a great LinkedIn profile matters in a big way. After all, LinkedIn does what other social media accounts can’t do: It lets people see your great reputation , for starters. It is a great way to share your story as a professional or entrepreneur. It is also a wonderful way to glean more leads as well as referrals. The LinkedIn activity is a way to show other professional people that you place a high value on business social media communities, and it sends a big message out like a banner behind an airplane that you are well versed in modern social media and other useful technologies. And perhaps one of the most important parts of LinkedIn is the way in which it brings in new talent. Like moths to a softly glowing street lamp, LinkedIn is a wonderful way for companies to get the word out about job offerings to a huge pool of talented potential hires. And what’s more, these profiles say a whole lot about a prospective employee than a regular old resume and portfolio do!Check out the video below on how to make your LinkedIn profile the greatest. BAD ADVICE #9: “YOU NEEDNT TAKE NOTES DURING AN INTERVIEW.”One of my old teachers once wore a f un tee shirt to our school end of year picnic that said, “If I’m talking, you should be taking notes.” While that was nothing more than a silly slogan, it was actually great advice.Sure, you know the ways of polite interview conversation: Offer a firm handshake.Stay focused on your interviewer. Leave your devices in your car. Say “Thank You” for the chance to be interviewed. But did you know that taking notes can really make or break an interview? It’s important and encouraged that you take notes. However, if you refer back to the notes when answering your questions, that could be perceived in the wrong way.One suggestion is to make use of a padfolio. Arrive at your interview site with copies of your resume in the padfolio, as well as work samples that you can give away or show off to all those you meet.Utilize the padfolio as a means to take down names and positions of people you meet.Suppose you are called back a week later to do the second round of interviews-you would not want to forget the name of the company’s president or regional director of sales! The best thing to do is ask for a business card of everyone you meet and arrange them in your padfolio with some notes about who they were and what they did.Plus, the emails of these individuals will be readily available to send your “Thank you” notes.Whatever you do, don’t look back at your notes while interviewing. You want to look like the expert you are. Plus, there is a concern that the notes you have are not your own, and your ideas are unoriginal.BAD ADVICE #10: “NETWORKING? WHO NEEDS IT?”Let’s begin with a few statistics here:85% of all positions are filled by way of networkingOver 70% of people report their impressions are affected by a person’s appearance and the handshake they give1 out of four people do not networkThese are just a few of the insightful and astonishing statistics about networking we uncovered.Networking, after all, helps you grow in your career and increas es the chance that you will be hired. You can network with just about anybody-clients, business associates, alumni from your college or university, and current and former coworkers. If you are too busy to make it to networking events, try to make it out to one. Take a day for professional development and attend one. You can also network online. You likely already know where to go; LinkedIn, of course, Facebook, and other social media giants are hotspots for networking action. College students may want to check and see if there is an alumni network they can work with.Networking can really payoff: Clare had been cut from her restaurant server job due to low customer volume during the slow months.A friend of Clare’s, Jeff, who was in her statistics class at school, learned an upscale eatery he bussed tables for was seeking experienced servers.Jeff put in a good word for Clare after hearing of her plight, and Clare was offered the chance to interview with the GM and two days later was of fered a probationary position.Talk to everybody you meet, and don’t be afraid to exchange LinkedIn or at least email information for the future. CONCLUSIONBeing like Dad is cool in some ways, but old career tips that aren’t relevant have no place anywhere.Staying on the up and up with new and fresh job search tactics is just as important as staying current with your industry’s techniques and regulations. What habits will you change as you search for a new job or shoot for that promotion? Two instruments were used to generate the data and from which the results were based. The data gathered were analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) namely, ANOVA, and Pearson product moment of correlation. Results revealed were the following: (1) Group 1 who used Filipino language test obtained the highest mean score and has smallest standard deviation value as compared with those who used English language (control group), and who used their native dialect (experimental group 2). Analysis on the relationship among variables showed studentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s performance in the TIMSS-like test and vocabulary ability is relatively low. The correlation coefficient value of 0.170 indicates that only 3.2% of the variance on the two measures correlated is common to variables. On the overall relationship using the mean score obtained by the respondents in the General Science Test and Vocabulary test, findings revealed that vocabulary knowledge is significantly related with the performance in the General Science Test having a correlation of 0.0241. The positive correlation result implied that if the vocabulary knowledge of the students improved or increases then their academic performance will also improve or increase. Indexed terms à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" language, vocabulary knowledge, general science performance INTRODUCTION Language is a spoken code that enables human beings to communicate with each other. It is as a written code for systematic science learning, and as a vehicle for constructive and creative thinking. The first function of language is science while the second is technology [1]. In the Philippines, Filipino people are typically multilingual which is now creolized among small elite. Since I957, the vernacular language has been used in grade 1 and grade 2; while Filipino and English language are used in some subjects in secondary and higher education level particularly science and mathematics [2]. One of the major issues facing policy makers and the implementations of education in general and science education in particular is the low performance of Filipino students at the basic level of education. TIMSS-R in 1998 features the translation of the English version of the test items in Filipino language for Filipino participants, for which only 15 schools or 10% of the total schools samp led chose to take the Filipino version of the test [3]. In their study, two questions remained unanswered; does the language of the test make significant difference in studentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ performance? Would Filipino students perform better if the students themselves were made to choose the language of the test? In this connection, this research were materialized for the purpose of looking into, whether the languages use in the TIMSS-like test affects student performance in general science. METHODOLOGY Participants and Procedure There were 72 first year high school students at MSU-Balindong High School participated in this study, they were matched paired base on their previous grades and randomly distributed into three groups: control group (group1) took the English version test, experimental group A (Filipino version test) and experimental group B took their choice language version of the test. In the experimental group B, the students were free to choose what test version they wanted to take. In this group, 3 or 12.5% chose English version, 5 or 20.83% chose Filipino version and 16 or 66.67% chose Meranao (native language) version test. Each group consisted of 24 students. Instruments Two instruments were used in the study to measure the effects of language used in the TIMSS-like test in general science. These are; TIMSS-like evaluation test based from the TIMSS constructed by the DOST-SEI and, the vocabulary test. The English version of TIMSS-like questions and the vocabulary questions were translated into Filipino version and Meranao version (native dialect of the respondents). All instruments were pilot tested prior to its implementations. Finally, there were 55 items in the TIMSS-like questions and 45 items in the vocabulary test. RESULTS Experimental group A (Filipino version test) obtained highest means scores followed by experimental group B (choice language) and control group (English version) respectively. In the case of standard deviation, group A obtained lowest deviation compared to their counterparts, while group B obtained highest deviation. These numerical results implied that students who chose Filipino version test (group A) showed homogeneity in answering the test, indicating that there is uniformity in their understanding of the concept being tested. Meanwhile the semblance of heterogeneity manifested by group B implied that this student varies in their understanding due to the fact that they are taking different version of test. Comparison of overall mean score in General Science Test among groups shown in Figure 1, indicate that if the students are exposed on Filipino language, they performed better on the Filipino language test, since Muslim students use Filipino language as their medium. Mea n score in General Science Test Using Pearson r correlation, results showed that there is positive correlation (r = 0.241, ÃŽÂ ± = 0.041) of the overall mean scores of the TIMSS-like and vocabulary test at 0.05 level of significant. This means that if the students have a wide range in vocabulary, then, they can perform better and understand deeper the concepts on higher order thinking skills. One reason why Philippines has a very low performance in science is due to the difficulty of students in identifying the concepts and skills, that is probably because of poor vocabulary knowledge [4]. The size of a personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s vocabulary is directly associated with the level of his intelligence. The results in the analysis of variance revealed that the mean scores obtained by the three groups did not differ significantly, probably due to limited number of respondents and or the number of items in the test. Moreover, the result may infer that language of the test d oes not affect either positively or negatively on the performance of the students. This result is consistent with the findings of Castillo (1999), which claimed that language use has limited effect on academic performance [6]. The dilemma on what language to use for science and mathematics instruction has remained for some time. However, based on the results of the study, the Filipino studentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ respondent performed better in the Filipino version test. Although English is the official medium of instruction in teaching science in the Philippines, but, in reality teacher use Filipino or their dialect in the teaching-learning process. Thus, it can be inferred that the language use in the instructions must be the language to be used in the test. Moreover, the positive correlation between the studentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ performance in the TIMSS-like test and vocabulary test implied that vocabulary knowledge is a tool for the students to perform better in their academ ic subjects. Therefore, teachers should be encouraged to incorporate science vocabulary in the science subjects. IMPLICATION Based on the respondentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s performance in the General Science TIMSS-Like tests, it can be said that the students find difficulty in answering questions that call for comprehension, application, and analysis. This may be due to the persistent practice of teachers to ask low level thinking questions during their day to day classroom discourse and written examinations. In as much as no significant differences between the mean scores among the group, one may take a look at the prerequisite stock knowledge and skills learned by the students in the elementary grades. It implies further that, the shortcoming besetting basic education such as curriculum materials, teacher preparation, dedication and commitment as well as administrators refocusing of their intended functions is addressed individually or collectively by stakeholders. If the bilingual policy which requires English as a medium of instruction in Science and Mathematics, and other subjects are to be taught in Filipino in the elementary and secondary education, one has to take cognizance of the diversity in the dialects of the Filipino which is brought about by the geographical existence of islands and islets that make up the entire nation. While English remains as official medium of instruction, in reality, teachers use Filipino or their dialect in explaining when students could not understand the concept being explained. The positive significant correlation between the overall mean scores in the General Science test and Vocabulary test implies importance of a wide range of vocabulary in learning the concepts. It is a tool for the students to perform better. One has to realize however, that unlike in English, there three aspects of communication namely: scene setting, intention, and meaning [7]. A student may find difficulty in giving the contextual meaning of the words in the test in as much as they are used to giving the meaning literally. Moreover, scientific terms are sometimes difficult to translate and if translated, may not be the exact or true meaning of the word as it is used in the statement. For example, the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“gasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ which is one of the states of matter, when translated to Filipino language, the dictionary meaning given is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“gaasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ but the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“gasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ is a dialect term for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“keroseneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ or fuel. This alone would lead misconception to the concept gas. The result of the study may give insights not only to science educators but to language teachers as well. As science educator, the task is one that calls for total commitment to improving the quality of the learners. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the language to be used as medium of instruction in teaching must be the language that is easily understood and frequently used by the students. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate science terminologies or vocabulary and words frequently used in building science concepts to provide and effective learning and better understanding of the subject matter that they teach. Language of the test should be taken into account and consider the nature and characteristics of the students aside from the purpose for which the test is given. Teachers should make it part of their teaching strategy to ask questions reflecting higher order thinking skills of the students when developing a test. Assessment should challenge critical thinking among students. Teachers must develop strategies that will enhance the development of thinking skills of students as they learn science concepts and other subject disciplines. Intensive teachers training on development of higher order thinking skill processes and assessment strategies should be designed and undertaken by teacher training institution to help improved teachers competencies. School administrators and policy makers should consider the use of language appropriate for the discipline in developing the curriculum. Lastly, it is recommended that further study about language using larger sample may be conducted not only in General Science but also in other subjects. REFERENCES [1] SEDP (1983). Tips for Salvaging Flood Damaged Photos, Papers Books

When disasters hit, most people dont mourn the refrigerator or the couch but the loss of precious family photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia can be devastating. While it may seem as if theres nothing to be done when faced with piles of soggy, mud-spattered documents, pictures, and other paper items, saving at least some of them may be possible if you follow a few simple steps. How to Save Water-Damaged Photos Most printed photographs, photographic negatives, and color slides can be cleaned and air-dried using the following steps: Carefully lift the photos from the mud and dirty water. Remove them from water-logged albums and separate any that are stuck together, being careful not to rub or touch the wet emulsion of the photo surface.Gently rinse both sides of the photo in a bucket or sink filled with clear, cold water. Do not rub the photos, and change the water frequently.Time is of the essence, so as soon as you can arrange adequate space, lay each wet photo face-up on any clean blotting paper, such as a paper towel. Dont use newspapers or printed paper towels, as the ink may transfer to your wet photos. Change the blotting paper every hour or two until the photos dry. Try to dry the photos indoors if possible, as sun and wind will cause them to curl more quickly. If you dont have time to dry your damaged photos right away, rinse them to remove any mud and debris. Carefully stack the wet photos between sheets of wax paper and seal them in a zipper-type plastic bag. If possible, freeze the photos to inhibit d amage. This way, photos can be defrosted, separated, and air-dried when you have the time to do it properly. More Tips for Handling Water Damaged Photographs Try to get to flood-damaged photos within two days or they will begin to mold or stick together, making it much less likely they can be salvaged.Begin with photographs for which there are no negatives, or for which the negatives are also water damaged.Pictures in frames need to be saved when they are still soaking wet, otherwise, the photo surface will stick to the glass as it dries and you will not be able to separate them without damaging the photo emulsion. To remove a wet photo from a picture frame, keep the glass and photo together. Holding both, rinse with clear flowing water, using the water stream to gently separate the photo from the glass. Note: Some historical photographs are very sensitive to water damage and may not be recoverable. Older or valuable photographs should not be frozen without first consulting a professional conservator. You may also want to send any damaged heirloom photos to a professional photo restorer after drying. Other Paperwork Marriage licenses, birth certificates, favorite books, letters, old tax returns, and other paper-based items can usually be saved after a drenching. The key is to remove the dampness as quickly as possible, before mold  sets in. The simplest approach to salvaging water-damaged papers and books is to lay the damp items on blotting paper to absorb moisture. Paper towels are a good option, as long as you stick to the plain white ones without the fancy prints.  Avoid using newsprint since the ink may run. How to Save Water-Damaged Papers Books As with photos, most papers, documents, and  books can be cleaned and air-dried using the following steps: Carefully remove the papers from the water. If the damage is from dirty flood water, gently rinse the papers in a bucket or sink of clear, cold water. If they are especially fragile, try laying the papers on a flat surface and rinsing with a gentle spray of water.Lay the papers individually on a flat surface, out of direct sunlight. If the papers are soggy, put them in piles to dry out a bit before attempting to separate them. If space is a problem, you can string fishing line across a room and use it as you would a clothesline.Put an oscillating fan in the room where you are drying your papers to increase air circulation and speed the process. For water-logged books, the best option is to place absorbent paper between the wet pages (this is called interleaving) and then lay the books flat to dry. You dont have to place blotter paper  between  every page, just every 20-50 pages or so. Change the blotting paper every few hours. If you have wet papers or books that you just cant deal with right away, seal them in plastic zipper bags and stick them in the freezer. This helps to stop  the deterioration  of the paper and prevents mold from setting in. When cleaning up after a flood or water leak, remember that books and papers dont have to be directly in the water to suffer damage. The increased humidity is enough to trigger the growth of mold. Its important to remove books and papers from a wet location as soon as possible and move them to a location with fans and/or dehumidifiers to speed air circulation and lower humidity. After your papers and books are completely dry, they may still suffer from a residual musty smell. To combat this, place the papers in a cool, dry place for a couple of days. If the musty smell still lingers, put the books or papers in an open box and put that inside a larger, closed container with an open box of baking soda to absorb odors. Be careful not to let the baking soda touch the books, and check the box daily for mold. If your important papers or photos have developed mold and must be discarded, have them copied or digitally scanned before throwing them out.

Life Is Like A Beach And Its Sand - 1314 Words

â€Å"If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin croucheth at the door: and unto thee shall be its desire, but do thou rule over it.† Genesis 4:7 American Standard Version---- â€Å"If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.† Genesis 4:7 King James Version Life is like a beach and its sand teaches many lessons. Almost anything can be crafted. Holes can be dug. Stumbling upon either of these can cause one to question them. Did somebody make that beautiful sandcastle with their own hands or was it carefully crafted by professionals? Was that hole created by some little kids trying to dig to China? These questions are all centered around one thing, the truth. Man has sought after this one thing for all of its existence. But truths about or concerning ourselves have always sparked curiosity. The questions of reality and illusion, freedom and fate have enthralled us throughout history and will continue to do so until our race is extinct. The passages above show two translations of the same verse. They are from the story of Cain and Abel. Speaking to Cain after he has murdered his brother, God explains Cain’s punishment. In the American Standard Version, God commands Cain to rule over sin, while in the King James Version, God promises Cain that he will surely triumph over sin. Literature Review: Test research has demonstrated that playing aggressive computer games causes higher bores of truculent insight, truculent effect, physiological excitement, and truculent deportment (in the short-term) than non-pugnacious computer games. Be that as it may, there are two noteworthy circumscriptions with these examinations. To start with, the dominant part of exploratory studies that have thought about the impacts of combative versus non-hostile computer games on animosity have neglected to balance these recreations as far as aggressiveness, exhaustingness, and pace of activity. In this manner, though the everyday finding is that antagonistic computer games cause higher gauges of hostility than non-truculent computer games, different unbeatable components past the bona fide pugnacious substance might be in charge of the lifted levels of animosity. Second, point of reference trial ponders have slanted to use an evaluation of hostility that might withal quantify aggressiveness, prompting inquiries regarding whether truculent computer games are related to animosity or intensity(P. Analysis Of The Book Tony Castanha - 880 Words

Throughout the entirety of the Caribbean history there have been many myths. One of the greater ones has been that the indigenous people that Christopher Columbus encountered are extinct. The book’s author, Tony Castanha, debunks that myth with stories of resistance to Columbus retold by people with Boriken descent, uncovering census data, and the retelling of the old Jibaro culture. With all this evidence, it is apparent that the Jibaro people are in fact not extinct. The first chapter mainly discusses the reasoning for the common beliefs of the indigenous Caribbean. The common beliefs that the indigenous are cannibals and are considered â€Å"noble savages† are all due to the early Spanish colonizers. They were the ones who perpetuated these stereotypes when they returned to Europe and it was the Spanish chroniclers who wrote the history books purposely erasing the indigenous people’s true nature from their writings. In fact, due to the suppression of information of the indigenous people, â€Å"Many native people here don’t know that they’re native. They don’t know their real history because modernization overtook them.† People forget their own roots because they grew up thinking they were of some other descent, but many of them survived. Many inhabitants of Boriken have been living in the mountains of the interior regions of the islands for thousands of years before the arrival of the Europeans. In fact, the term Jibaro is in reference to La Gente de la Montana which means the

We will write a custom essay sample on Twelve Angry Men or any similar topic only for you Order Now The faults in the play are displayed by the twelve juries that were selected to represent the case presented. The lack of knowledge, prejudice and the personality clashes are all examples of the flaws in the jury system that are shown in the Twelve Angry Men. Rose was able to express that in the play During the play Twelve Angry Men, Rose finds the flaws in the personality chosen for the jury case. Rose demonstrates to the audience that the 12 juror members have very different personalties which in some circumstances work together but most of the time they create incidences and commotion. The personality clashes are mostly seen between the 3rd juror and the 8th juror â€Å"God damn it! I’ll kill him! I’ll kill him† and â€Å"Shut up, you son of a bitch! † shows the tension, suspense and displeasure between these two jurors. The two jurors are a huge part in the play and it is their personalities that clash the most. The tension however is not just shown between these two jurors. â€Å"Do you know you’re a sick man? † â€Å"who the hell is he to tell me that? † is examples from the 9th and 10th jurors. These remarks are found throughout the play and underline the importance of needing to work together. Rose is able to point out the flaws in the jury system by not having each juror analysed before the case to learn their personalties and traits. These incidents however can relate and intertwine with the prejudice and discrimination found in the jury rooms. In Twelve Angry Men, Rose highlights the potential flaws that can be found in the jury system, where prejudice interferes and the pursuit of justice. This is shown mostly by the 3rd Juror in his unwillingness to change his initial ‘guilty’ verdict and the manner in which he characterises, ‘kids†¦ owadays. Angry! Hostile! ‘. This view is held because the 3rd Juror relates to his troubled and tense relationship with his son as it corresponds to the defendants relationship with his father. It is displayed that the 3rd juror wants to punish the young boy for the pain that the jurors on pain put on him. The 3rd juror isn’t look for the facts or details of the case, he is just acting on his own emoti ons. This then leads to a fault in the jury system as the personality of one jury impacts the ability for the jurors to make a logical verdict on the case. The 10th juror also makes some assumptions in deciding the boy’s guilt or innocence rather than looking at the actually facts. â€Å"It’s those people! I’m tellin’ you they let the kids run wild up there. Well, maybe it serves em’ right†¦ † In the play, Rose was able to point out that the flaws of the jury system and that not knowing the twelve people chosen can result in prejudiced and discrimination and not the truth that surrounds the case and defendant. In Twelve Angry Men, Rose highlights the importance of knowing and understanding the jury system and what it involves. There is a range of different jurors who have different knowledge and expectations of what is expected of the jury room and role. â€Å"I never knew they locked the door† is a prime example of the awareness and insight of the jury system. Whereas Juror 11, the immigrant watchmaker seemed to be more interested and fascinated by the juror system then those who are from America. â€Å"I don’t believe I have to be loyal to one side or the other†¦ † demonstrates the 11th jurors judgement and appreciation for the system and the case. Rose is able to explain the importance of understanding and the importance of the jury system and the case that is presented in front of the 12 jurors. According to Rose, the jury system is flawed and this can be demonstrated through the play of Twelve Angry Men. The play is based around the personality clashes of each of the jurors, the prejudiced and discrimination found by some of the men and the lack of knowledge and interest in the jury system by all the jurors. All these contribute to a jury system that can be seen as faulty and imperfect by Rose. How to cite Twelve Angry Men, Papers

Personality Type and Its Relation to Organization free essay sample

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss my personality type based on result from Jungian 16-Type personality assessment and will discuss in detail about my type, an ISTJ, and how it relates to an organization. Organizations consist of people who differ from one another in almost every dimension possible. Diversity certainly is a challenge that is here to stay. To manage the diversity it is of utmost importance to understand personality and related behavior. Equally important is to understand one’s own personality type. A study of personality becomes relevant to find that an individual’s functioning is affected by how one relates to the world, how one processes information, evaluates the environment and finally making decisions (Kroeger, Thuesen, Rutledge, 2002). In the present paper an attempt is made to understand my personality type and its relationship with role efficacy. My Personality Type: ISTJ † A personality type is a category of people who exhibit a particular combination of psychological characteristics, the assumption being that combination is unique and distinguished the type of others† (Miller, 1991). According to Myers and Briggs theory there are 16 distinct personality types. The goal of knowing one’s personality type is to understand and appreciate differences between them. (Kroeger, et. al, 2002). My personality type is ISTJ and according to David Keisery ISTJ personality type will fall into a temperament category of SJ. ISTJ’s are briefly described as private, loner tendencies, organized, detail oriented, would rather be friendless than jobless, observer, focused, finisher, punctual, private, follows the rules, logical, analytical, and hardworking (â€Å"Sixteen Personality Types†, 2011). The following descriptions are different aspects of my personality type and how they work together. Introverted (I) A person with introverted preference enjoys peace, and likes to do things on their own or with one or two people. Introverts are hard-working, reserved, dedicated, and punctual and will not tolerate any inconsistency (Kroeger, et. al, 2002). Introvert will spend much time in detail and sometimes they forget to check with outside world to see if their ideas fit the experience. I consider myself as introvert, in my work life or in my personal life I always like to be punctual and I am very dedicated to work and will work hard to meet my deadlines. Even my friends and people at work place often say that I am reserved, never speak much, and I always get appreciation for my hard work and meeting my deadlines. Sensing (S): A person with sensing preference can be described as one who will pay more attention to information, like to see practical use of things and learn best from it, self-confident, practical and will quickly adapt to new situations. A sensor will solve the problems by working through facts and by understanding the problem (â€Å"Four Preferences†, 2011). As a software developer I always look into facts and theories before designing the solution. In today’s world there is a rapid growth in technologies and being in an information technology industry I have to learn and adapt all these technologies quickly. In my personal life I am always self-confident and think practically before making any decisions. Thinking (T): Thinking is the ability to deal with information on the basis of its structure and its function. Thinkers (T) are consistent and logical in making decisions and they thinks pros and cons of the decision before making it whereas Feelers (F) makes decision with the points of view of persons involved in the situation. (â€Å"Four Preferences†, 2011). Like all Thinkers (T) I always want to make the right decisions even if i like the decision or not. Similarly I always do my homework and set guidelines before performing any task. One of the characteristic as a Thinker (T) in my real life is, if any task is assigned to me at my work place, I will analyze, design and plan before performing it. Judging (J): Judging refers to the attitude towards the outside world. A person with judging preference always wants his things to be neat, well-structured, orderly and established. A judger always plans ahead and will work to bring a closure to an issue so that he can move on (â€Å"Four Preferences†, 2011). One of the characteristics of a judger which I can see in myself at my work place is that I always want to complete all my given tasks and get ready for the next one. In my personal life I always plan ahead before making any xpenditure and that way I can control my finances and provide better support to my family. ISTJ: ISTJ’s are responsible, quiet, reserved, loyal, faithful and dependable individuals. As an ISTJ, I always look into facts and tangible realities (Sensing), preferably in an objective fashion and set guidelines before performing a task (Thinking). I perform my duties in well planned and structured way (Judging) and as introvert I appear calm and rese rved. One of my strengths is the ability to act quickly and very often, correctly. The various accountability and productivity demands of all organizations, from meeting deadlines to staying within budgets to achieving production goals, are natural areas in which ISTJs excel† (Kroeger, et. al, 2002). Some of the weaknesses of my personality type ISTJ, which I have experienced in my daily life are that, ISTJ’s are not known for their patience in dealing with other’s problems especially when a conflict appears to have irresponsibility, impracticality and disloyalty at its base. Since ISTJs are perfectionists, it may be difficult for them to delegate unless they have a great deal of confidence that their subordinate will follow through. I tend to think lot and judge others before really understanding them. I have slight difficulty in communicating and relating to others easily (â€Å"Portrait†, 2011; â€Å"ISTJ Personal Growth†, 2011). Temperament SJ According to David Keisery, who has created the theory of temperament, there are four temperaments: Guardians, Idealists, Artisans, and Rationals. My personality type ISTJ is associated with temperament Guardian and is described as â€Å"Inspector†. Inspectors are extraordinarily preserving, dutiful, and they follow the rules and standards. Inspectors are not very talkative but they like the people who follow the rules and who maintain the standards (â€Å"Keisery Temperament†, 2011). Type Talk At Work The important concepts I have learned from the book â€Å"Type Talk At Work† is how personality type plays an important role in everyday life and in organization. By knowing one’s personality type and other’s personality type one can build understanding and communication. According to the book there re no good and bad â€Å"types† in personality; there are only differences (Kroeger, et. al, 2002). For organization success one should understand himself, colleagues, customers, suppliers so that they can connect easily with them and provide them a valuable solution. To succeed in an organization, employees and managers need to have good people skills, by knowing the personality type’s one can have better understanding of themselves and about others in the organization which will improve their communication and relationship (Robbins Judge, 2009). By understanding my own personality type, I came to know my areas of strength and weakness. At my workplace now I can incorporate my strengths and communicate effectively with managers and co-workers, which will help me to work efficiently and effectively. At the same time, as I have understood my weaknesses now, I can work on those to improve. Conclusion To manage and succeed every individual should know their personality type, which will help them to understand about themselves and others. Knowing one’s own personality type not only will help organizations to succeed but also to build the relationships individually. References BSM Consulting. Comparing First Love and Shall I compare thee Essay Example For Students

Comparing First Love and Shall I compare thee Essay Shall I Compare Thee is a sonnet written by William Shakespeare, that compares a mystery person to summer, describing them as lovely, and more temperate than a summers day. At no point in the poem are we given a clue as to whether the person being described in the poem is male or female, or any other description as to their appearance or form. He says that their beauty will live on forever, as his poem gives life to them So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee. The this he refers to is his poem. First Love is a love poem written by John Clare, it is describing someones lover; however the language would suggest that unlike Shall I Compare Thee, the lover in First Love does not yet know the person he is talking about. There is not really a relationship between him and the woman he stares at, which is given through impression that it was love at first sight. He was struck by love rather than slowly getting to know his lover. In Shall I Compare Thee, the lover likens his lover to a beautiful, warm summers day Shall I Compare Thee to a summers day, thou art more lovely and more temperate. He says that unlike summer, their beauty will never fade, But thy eternal summer will not fade. This shows that he believes the pure beauty and youth of his lover will never cease because he has recorded it in him poem. In this poem Shakespeare slowly builds the image of his lover into that of a perfect being, the lover is at first compared to summer, but later on an effective metaphor is used in saying that they are summer, But thy eternall Sommer shall not fade. This gives the impression that the poet can only describe this person as pure perfection and not only compare them to it. The poets response to such intense delight and beauty is to guarantee that his lover will be forever in human memory, remembered for their absolute beauty even well after death. On the other hand in First Love the lovers life is suddenly turned to clay, this suggests it is all of a sudden, hard and life is all at a standstill. The poets love interest is unintentionally in control, and in the first stanza his body has been completely taken over by the first sight of her And when she looked, what could I ail? My life and all seemed turned to clay. This image of clay again portrays the poet unable to move, frozen by love. Shall I Compare Thee is a sonnet, consisting of four stanzas, each of three quatrains and a final couplet composed in iambic pentameter with the rhyme scheme, ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. Unlike this, First Love consists of three stanzas and comprises of a rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD. First Love is a lyrical poem; this means that rather than portraying characters and actions, it addresses the reader directly. This means it clearly portrays the narrators own feelings, states of mind and perceptions. Therefore we get a clear insight into the narrators thoughts. I could not see a single thing. Words from my heart did start This shows how the poem is an effective window into the speakers deepest thoughts and innermost feelings. Both poems use an array of poetic devices such as metaphors, is loves bed always snow? In this quote from First Love, the speaker compares love to snow, implying it is cold and harsh. This poem also uses alliteration to add emphasis to points, blood burnt around my heart is a good example of how alliteration effectively adds emphasis. In this case the burnt adding emphasis to the pain, giving a clear picture of the painful, intolerable heat of the pain he felt. In Shall I Compare Thee, another device is used; an echo. .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .postImageUrl , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:hover , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:visited , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:active { border:0!important; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:active , .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869 .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u92ae2f51fc8ca4eee664868ccd323869:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Narrative Poetry EssayThis adds emphasis as it stresses the point repeatedly, this is repeated throughout the last lines of the poem, So long lives this and this gives life to thee. In First Love, the intention of the poem is to convey the emotions of the narrator, his feelings of love and despair, as he has fallen in love with someone he can never have. The poem is successful in conveying his emotions and making the reader empathise. Also in First Love, the author uses simple wording and imagery to create a truly unhappy scene. For example my life and all turned to clay is an illustration of his life stopping because he cannot talk to his desired girl. An image like my heart has left its dwelling place represents his feeling of losing his heart to this women. This is rather different to Shall I Compare Thee, where the poet does not give a sense of unexpectedly falling in love, but instead gives the impression that the narrator has studied his love. Therefore instead of going on immediate reactions, has thought thoroughly about what he wants to say. Shall I Compare Thee is a poem that is, again trying to convey the narrators feelings towards someone, but is done very differently. The lover is simply praising his love and their beauty, rather than trying to tell a story.

How the Constitution applies to being a Military Leader/Officer

Table of Contents Introduction Sworn Oath of Defending the Constitution Military Justice and the Constitution Limitation of Powers Reference List Introduction It is the duty of the U.S. Armed Forces to protect the country from both internal and external threats yet few people seem to realize that the basis for such responsibilities is not due to orders from the president or that of Congress but rather it is a result of a sworn oath to protect the Constitution. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on How the Constitution applies to being a Military Leader/Officer specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The Constitution itself is greater than any single branch of government however it is still vulnerable to corruption from within and as such it is the duty of each and every military officer to ensure that such corruption is stamped out. On the other hand, it must be mentioned that though it is the duty of the military to pr otect the Constitution it is only through the Constitution itself and its various amendments that the military was even brought into being in the first place For example, it is only through the powers given to it by the constitution that Congress is able to authorize the creation of the military as well as control its budget and it is only through Congressional action that war can be declared (McCarthy, 2011). It must be noted though that the constitution also happens to give the President significant powers in terms of being the commander and chief of the Armed Forces in times of war and as such all military leaders/officers are de facto obliged to obey the president. Based on such factors, this paper will explore how the Constitution applies to being a military leader/officer and what are the various contributions the Constitution has had in the creation of the modern day system seen in the U.S. Armed Forces today. Sworn Oath of Defending the Constitution First and foremost among the oaths sworn by a military officer/leader is a pledge to defend and support the Constitution of the United States, do note that this isn’t a pledge to obey the President or support Congress in its decisions rather it is an obligation to defend the tenets of the Constitution from both foreign and domestic threats. What you have to understand is that while the Constitution itself is responsible for the creation of the U.S. armed forces (seen in Section 8 Article 1) the fact is that it also entails a distinct separation of powers in order to create a checks and balances system of which each and every U.S. military leader/officer is a part of. The pledge to defend the Constitution is in part an aspect of this check and balances system wherein despite the fact that the military is under the control of a civilian government, military officers/ leaders also acts as a means of ensuring that such a system isn’t abused (Kuehn, 2010). Advertising Looking for essay on c onstitutional law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More For example, in cases where an obviously corrupt elected government is in control, military officers/leaders have the solemn duty to ensure the continued protection of the tenets of the Constitution by intervening in civilian affairs whether through arms or through protest in order to ensure that the Constitution is protected at all costs. This is one of the main reasons why the oath every single military officer takes is not to the President, to Congress, the Judiciary, or the Senate but rather to the Constitution itself. This is to ensure that should all else fail and the government of the country is corrupt beyond measure and is pursuing a path that is in direct conflict with the ideals put into practice by the founding fathers, there would still be some form of resistance in the form of the Armed Forces of the country in order to ensure that such actions can be prevented and t o ensure the reassertion of the proper form of government that is necessary to put the country back on track. Military Justice and the Constitution Under the 5th Amendment of the Constitution the creation of a separate justice system for the U.S. military was enacted in order to create a system that specifically deals with cases involving military personnel. What you have to understand is that the creation of such a unique justice system was due to the fact that civilian law lacked the necessary â€Å"severity† and â€Å"strictness† needed for the Armed Forces (Underhill, 1924). For example, neglecting ones duty, gross disrespect for a superior, abuse of power in the work place or arriving late for an assignment is normally seen as adverse actions however perfectly allowable under civilian law. Under the military justice system, though such actions have a corresponding criminal punishment due to their violation of military codes of conduct and ethics. The reason behi nd this is quite simple, all militaries whether they are based in the U.S., the Philippines, the U.K. or other such countries all function through a process of strict discipline, unquestioning observance of orders and the rules of military codes of conduct, as well as loyalty to ones country. Without such systems in place the end result would be an undisciplined organization that would be unable to work as a cohesive whole should a period of war occur this resulting in the potential deaths of thousands of soldiers as a direct result. It is based on this that once a civilian has entered into military service he/she understands that under the 5th amendment to the Constitution they will henceforth be subject to the military justice system until such a time that they released from active duty within the military.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on How the Constitution applies to being a Military Leader/Officer specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Limitation of Powers As mentioned earlier, there is an inherent separation of powers within the U.S. Constitution which ensures that no single branch of government has too much power in order to ensure that the there is a certain degree of â€Å"control† in order to limit potentially unconstitutional policies from being implemented. The same though can be said in the case of the military wherein based on the constitution the power of the military is limited and controlled by the civilian government of the U.S (Agency group, N.D.). This is in line with the aforementioned checks and balances system mentioned earlier which all military officers need to take into consideration since despite the potential power at their hands they need to realize that such powers are there only to defend the constitution, protect the people of this nation and ensure its continued existence and as such should not be utilized for personal gain.
